CALO Game Rules & Key Differences from Classic Monopoly: Comprehensive Guide
Key Takeaways:
- Mandatory Auctions: Declining an unowned property triggers an instant public auction starting from 10.
- Strict Building Scarcity: Only 32 houses and 12 palaces exist in the bank. Holding houses blocks opponent upgrades.
- Rolling 3 doubles in a row sends the player directly to jail.
- Dynamic matchmaking supporting FFA and 2v2/4v4 team battles.
CALO is a high-tempo economic board game designed for rapid competitive play, real financial acumen, and sharp negotiation. Forget hours-long grinds: CALO delivers balanced 15–25 minute matches powered by strict rule enforcement.
1. Board Architecture: 40 Squares
The 40 squares feature 22 colour properties across 8 groups, 4 railway stations, 2 utilities, 4 strategic corners, and card/tax events.
2. Compulsory Auctions
If an active player declines to buy an unowned land at list price, it goes immediately to a public live auction starting at 10. This accelerates land acquisition and triggers tactical bidding wars.
3. The Housing Scarcity Tactic
With only 32 houses and 12 palaces available globally, hoarding houses without upgrading to palaces starves opponents of supply, shutting down their late-game progression.
